Red for Days!

If you'll forgive my hair, I think this look turned out really awesome!  I wanted to do dark eyes and dark lips.  It was the perfect opportunity to break out my newly beloved MUFE 48 lipstick.  48 is possibly my favorite vamp ever!

Sadly, it was very overcast outside, so all the sparklies on my eyes refused to shine.  Mirifique has soft rainbowy multi-colored sparkles and Berber has beautiful gold sparkles.  Oh!  And MUFE 307 e/s has tiny rainbow glitters, too!

Next up are some bloopers.  That's right, folks.  You heard me right.  I make silly faces.  Mostly on accident while trying to make really cool faces (or while attempting to smile in a natural looking manner).

This is maniac smiley face.

This is "oh no you di'in't" or alternately, the face of indigestion.

This is smoochy eyes to the sky face.

And lastly we have squinty-eyed smoochy pirate.

I'm still loving the Touche Eclat foundation.  Also, the formula on the lipstick is pretty great, too!  I definitely think I want to do more red eyes with red lips in the future.

Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you enjoyed the silliness.  :)

Pat McGrath Inspired

This is a runway inspired look that I wore on Friday.  I was rather taken by a photo I saw on a Pat McGrath Tumblr (I say "a" instead of "the" because I have no idea if it is "the" one or how many Pat McGrath Tumblrs in fact exist).  You can see it here.

Yohji Yamamoto's Fall 2012 show featured models with dark blue lips and glossy lids.  I just had to try it!  I was only looking at the one inspirational picture, and since it was blurry, I took some liberties.  Now that I've since looked at other pictures of other models, I realize I missed out on a gold cupid's bow highlight, gold inner lower lash line highlight, as well as amped up my black liner too much.  Ah well, it was certainly fun!

Also, I did add a soft contour with Nars Douceur blush and a brow highlight with Nars Silver Factory after these pictures were taken.  Sorry that you missed out on that!  The awkward picture below is intended to show some of the glossiness on my eyelids.  And yes, I do believe I overdid it with the pink, as well.

Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer
Illamasqua Morale powder blusher
YSL black cream liner
Fiberwig D.J.V. Beautenizer Volume Lash
Malin & Goetz Mojito Lip Balm (as gloss)

Lips:
YSL waterproof eye pencil 3 Ultramarine
Anna Sui waterproof eye pencil 03 (magenta color on center of lower lip)
Malin & Goetz Mojito Lip Balm (as gloss)

This was my first time attempting a dramatic and unconventional makeup look on myself.  Furthermore, I actually wore this makeup for a full 9 hours or more.  Let me tell you something I'm sure you may have already guessed - runway makeup is not meant for a full day in real life!!  I knew it was going to give me trouble, but with some careful monitoring and tweaking, I was able to manage it.

The eyes creased and smudged some due to the gloss, but after the first few hours, they calmed down and did fine really (of course by then, most of the glossy effect was lacking).  Oddly enough, my lids were super duper soft and plump at the end of the night, after I took all my makeup off!  I have to give credit to that amazing balm!!  The lips were the most high maintenance for me.  I had to frequently check that they weren't misbehaving, moving, or breaking down on the corners.  Surprisingly, though, the corners were the only parts that gave me any trouble.  The line remained crisp and in tact and as the color faded it remained relatively even and soft looking due to the gloss (balm, really).  At one point in the day, I tried to wear the lips without gloss, which was not only uncomfortable, but wore much worse and patchy on the corners.  Gloss to save the day!

Can I just say that that YSL blue liner is not messing around!?  It wore exceptionally well on my lips and was quite tenacious.  I have since tried another waterproof blue eyeliner/shadow on my lips which wore off in patches very quickly.  Yuck.  Points to YSL for making an eyeliner that rocks as a lip color.  Hopefully I don't die from consuming something not lip safe!

If ever you are feeling courageous or curious about social psychology, do wear a bold blue lip (and perhaps even blush and gloss on your eyes).  It's a strange day to have.  People look at you very differently.  It was a humbling experience for me, I must say.  And I'm thankful that despite odd looks, no one had the nerve to actually say much about my makeup.  Of course a few dear souls were fabulously supportive.  Makeup should be fun, no?  I think so.

Thanks for stopping by and do let me know what you think of this look!

Steampunk

So, I wore this look on Friday.  It was 7:45 in the morning when I took these pictures.  I am not a morning person!

Also, I take entirely too long to apply my makeup.  I started, with my eyes, at about 6:45 in the morning.  Holy cow!  This is the first time I've ever attempted a really dramatic smoky eye that early in the day.  Go me!

I only wish these pictures better captured the sparkly awesomeness that is Fyrinnae Steampunk.  I made the next photo a tiny bit "cooler" in temperature to try and show it more accurately.  Morning sun is so gold and warm.  I used Makeup Geek Moondust to blend above the crease and on the lowers.  I absolutely adore that shadow!  It's sort of green, taupe, and pink all at the same time...I think I'm in love.

When I was driving to work, I turned the corner, was going head on into the bright golden sun, and caught a glimpse of my unbelievably sparkly and shimmery eyes in the rearview mirror.  Needless to say, that was all I needed to do to drive up against the curb.  I am so special.

I'm getting caught up on looks, slowly but surely!  I am looking forward to being able to post looks the night of the same day that I wore them.  That will be so much easier for remembering exactly what I used and wore.  Oh yeah.

Feel free to ask questions about anything and thank you for stopping by.  :)

Black Tango

Welcome!  This is my little makeup blog.  I'll be mainly posting "face of the day" makeup here, but I expect there may be some swatching and other fun things taking place from time to time.  :)  I hope you enjoy it!  This is a Make Up For Ever Black Tango inspired look I wore yesterday.

The original look featured mauve cheeks and burgundy lips, but I modified that part for mine.

This eye needed to be blended more above the crease, which I promptly did after I got to work!

I'm not used to having my brows this long and large.  That was fun and weird!

This eye turned out pretty good.  If I had it to do over again, I would layer Arabian Ruby over a more opaque base or maybe even try it wet.

I slept with my hair just washed and damp the previous night, hence the super wavy lovely look!

Here is what I wore.

Face:
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer
Smashbox under eye primer
MUFE Lift 11
MUFE Lift concealer 1
Illamasqua concealer 115
Korres Wild Rose Mineral Setting Powder
MUFE Super Matte Loose 12

Cheeks:
Guerlain Terracotta Light Blondes 01
Tarte AC Dazzled (not mauve enough, but closest in my stash to a dusty mauve, I think)
Tarte AC Shimmering Powder Champagne

Eyes:
Lorac primer
Chanel Mirifique (base)
Addiction Arabian Ruby
GA ETKI Lust Red (used wet as liner - nearly pointless as you can't really see it except maybe a bit on the lowers)
Face Atelier White Gold pigment
YSL Faux Cils black cream liner (tightline and waterline)
YSL Shocking mascara
Givenchy Phenomeneyes WP
Clinique Bottom Lash
Tarte taupe brow pencil

Lips:
Buxom Clair

I'm not too talented taking self-portraits with my little camera, so I apologize if the pictures, lighting, and angles are less than grand.  I do the best I can!

Hopefully this will be fun for you and fun for me.  :)  Let me know if you have any questions about the look or techniques used.  Thanks for stopping by!
